This week’s free edition is a Freaked My Week from me! Next week for paid subscribers, we’ll have the vegan Thanksgiving queen, Laura Wright of The First Mess and a new recipe.
THANK YOU to everyone who renewed their subscription to this newsletter as we hit the one year mark of starting the paid version. You have no idea how much it means to me. Supporting my work here – means I can keep living in this happy creative space (aka not feel pressured to be on social media / do sponsored content). Plus, it’s one of my greatest joys to get to share all the people, places, and things that make me happy with you. Thanks, thanks, thanks!
**Last week I asked if you wanted me to do another holiday roundup (like last year) that highlighted everyone’s products and businesses. I got a handful of “yes!” - but not enough to give me a good read on whether or not to put the call out. Not to get all caps about it, but if you want the roundup, REPLY TO THIS EMAIL WITH A YES. We had so many submissions last year (we had to do a three part series!)…so if you really do want to feature your product or get holiday ideas from our community here, you gotta let me know. Also, no bigs if it’s a “no”…just trying to give the people want they want.
Alright, goodies below!
Lots of love,
Jessica

The Things That Freaked My Week
Horticultural Therapy In Any Space via AD
Whenever I’ve shared that I’m back in school to become a Horticultural Therapist…the common response has been “cool!” and then followed by “what’s that?” I love this piece in Architectural Digest that explains what this work is, the benefits, and most importantly ways you can practice horticulture therapy (without a therapist or a garden).
Sad Happens: A Celebration of Tears
”A beautifully illustrated, celebratory anthology exploring sadness—and the transformative power of tears.” I can’t wait to get my hands on this book by Brandon Stosuy and illustrated by my friend Rose Lazar. I’m a big crier…happy, sad, mad, excited… and can’t wait to read about how / why / when others cry (and how Rose illustrated it all!).
Carbivore
Ok, another friend’s book! Because my pal, Phoebe Lapine, made another incredible book and just so inspired by her (also, I love carbs). This new one is 130 recipes to “stop fearing carbs and embrace the comfort foods you love.” Pre-orders are happening now (I’ve already ordered mine) and you’ll get six advance recipes when you pre-order.
Gratitude Hand Pies
This coming weekend I’m having a Gratitude dinner party for a handful of friends. We’re going to be crafting some, so I wanted something easy to eat and landed on hand pies (something I’d never made before). One will be filled with mashed potatoes and sauerkraut and other filled with Melissa Clark’s Mushroom Bourguignon. I did a little trial run last night and they’re so good! I’ll report back on what my friends think…
If you’re new here, some other great guests and recipes to check out from the archives…
