Hello!
Programming note…
Starting this month, I’m taking the paywall off the newsletter. It might seem like strange timing, because everyone seems to be turning the paywalls on (which I understand!), but I just want this one to be one less expense in life while things are weird.
I have a friend who had to close her business last week because of the tariffs. Another friend’s business has dried up because of DEI being scaled back / erased. Others are nervous about where everything is going or at a standstill for plans for the future. A lot feels so uncertain.
Thought it would be nice to make this free for now. If you still want to pay for the subscription each month (thank you!), I’ve left the paid subscription on for you to contribute. You’ll have access to the full archive of posts (they are locked after 6 months). If you can’t contribute during this time…now, you don’t have to worry about it.
Hope this little corner of the internet can bring you some free joy.
Go get the links!
Love,
Jessica

Why Women Experience Alzheimer’s Disease Differently From Men via Nature
THEY ARE FINALLY STUDYING WOMEN’S BRAINS. Dr. Lisa Mosconi actually deserves a parade.
Research on another difference between biological male and female individuals is showing how the menopause transition, characterized by major changes in the levels of oestrogen and other hormones, might drive sex differences in Alzheimer’s risk and resilience. Medical textbooks describe menopause mainly as the end of reproductive capacities, says Mosconi. But she emphasizes that most menopause symptoms are neurological: hot flushes, poor sleep, mood changes and brain fog.

Elizabeth Blackwell’s Story on RHS Podcast
Elizabeth Blackwell was an 18th century illustrator and herbalist who supported her shady and delinquent criminal husband with her work. Until recently, it was credited to him – a fascinating, inspiring, and enraging story.
I couldn’t stop talking about her story after listening the podcast that my husband gifted me a book about her to support my obsession. It’s a stunner.

If you live in London, please go to this for me.
