Hello,
This week, I wondered…“Should I start posting on social media again?” Not because I miss it, but because I thought I should start laying a foundation for what I’m working on next. Granted I won’t be graduating or even able to start practicing in over a year, but my marketing brain said it would be a good idea to slowly ease into it, to gather some momentum. And also, don’t people like pretty flower pictures?
So I downloaded Instagram, opened the app, and went to post. The second I did that, that low-grade anxiety feeling I used to have washed over me. A feeling so consistent, I didn’t even realize I had it until it was gone. My body was telling me to GET OUT NOW. So I did. And deleted the app again.
Maybe when I start my new venture, I’ll hire someone to post for me OR maybe I’ll be so excited that I can look past the low-grade ick feeling. For now, I’ll just keep sharing here. Sooo…can you look at my pretty flower pictures?! THANK YOU. They’re at the bottom, in case flowers aren’t your thing.
Before you get to it, a save-the-date!
On April 2nd, I’ll be interviewing Phoebe Lapine about her new book, Carbivore, in Charleston, SC at Blue Bicycle Books. Find out more here. I can’t wait and hope you can make it!
Alright, goodies below.
Love,
Jessica
The Things That Freaked My Week
Some things I’m currently into…
The Idea Of You Trailer
Please note, I DO NOT accept Anne Hathaway as my Solène. It’s one of the worst castings of all-time in the book-to-movie category - or maybe just in general, ever. That said, I will watch this movie the day it comes out and felt compelled to alert any fellow TIOY fans so we can discuss.
If you haven’t read it, The Idea Of You is one of the best rom-comy, beach-read books of all time. And also an amazing real life story of how a book isn’t “dead” just because it didn’t “do well” when it first came out.
Monica Lewinsky Reformation Campaign
In incredible casting news…Monica looks absolutely stunning in this campaign. And I have nothing else to say about it, except that I support anything she wants to do and love how well this campaign is doing.
Egyptian Licorice Tea
I had this tea at a retreat I went to over five years ago and have been searching for it ever since. There was no tag or label on the tea when I had it, it was named some wellnessy jargon name like “chill blend” or “grounding essence.” Over the years, I’ve tried so many different ones to find it. And then my friend Al visited me and left behind her tea…and it ended up being THE TEA. I cannot believe I’ve finally found it.
Note: Apparently licorice root can cause health issues for some people if used daily. There is a warning label on this tea. So if you love it, too…a warning of moderation!
The Story of Constance Spry via Flowers + Their Meanings
I was recently introduced to Karen Azoulay’s newsletter (thank you, Kristen) and it’s sooo good! This specific piece she wrote on Constance Spry (1886 - 1960) was juicy, inspiring, and just perfect. So much so, I immediately bought Karen’s book of the same name. It’s also sooo good.
Me in Chloe List’s Unbox Inbox!
So excited to be in her Toothpaste edition! I talk about all my favorite things…from the perfect dip vessel, “Spinach Gatorade,” my private new algorithm, and my ultimate splurge item. Even if you don’t care about any of these things…the toothpaste roundup is incredible!
