Hello.
Hope you’re hanging in there. This week in the US has felt vile, sad, and just unimaginable for so many. The only thing I have left in me to say is that I will be doing my best to help all the people who are being / will be harmed and hope you can do the same.
I did a little poll a few months ago asking if you still wanted fun and semi-important roundups when things get bad and you said yes – that it’s a nice distraction and it brings you a little joy. So I’m here bringing you some today and hope it gives you a little reprieve.
And thank you for listening to the new podcast and sending so many nice messages about it. It’s so fun to do it again and makes me so happy you’re liking it.
Love, love, love,
Jessica
Two new episodes of INSIDE + OUTSIDE PODCAST
Last week, I interviewed Laura Wright of the The First Mess. We talked about her first nature memory, nature prescriptions in Canada, course-correcting old recipes, and her latest inside obsession (and how it’s impacting the way she thinks about her work). Laura’s the best!
Listen on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, or my website.
This week, my guest was Emily Fiffer (owner of Botanica in LA). We talked about her rekindling her connection to nature, big boobs, the Prospect / Refuge theory, books for self-protection, and her inside obsession (also book-related). A great listen!
Listen on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, or my website.
And thank you to this week’s sponsor, Jena Burton Wellness! Jena is a board-certified health and wellness coach on a mission to help women feel better. She’s offering $200 off her Gut Reset Program to all Inside + Outside listeners. Just mention the pod when you reach out.

The Things That Freaked My Week
Some things I’m currently thinking about…
INSIDE
Calmezzi
I’m obsessed. A couple of tablespoons (1/4 cup sometimes) mixed into a little kombucha or sparkling water a few hours before bed. Sweet dreams! They randomly have this at my corner store, but you can purchase online, too.
Soft Time
Loving Sam Stewart’s work
A book I read this month:
We Were Liars by E. Lockhart
This was next up in my my friend Chance and I’s Book-Turned-TV-Show Club. The series based on this book just came out. The writing style was tough for me and found it hard to get into a flow. Reviews online seem to feel otherwise…so maybe it’s just me. Regardless watching the show next week!
RSVP SOS via Business Insider
As someone who gets livid when people don’t RSVP to my parties, this piece made me feel less alone.
Groovy Geminis Podcast
I was a guest! Such thoughtful questions. I loved my conversation with hosts, Jena and Bethany so much.
OUTSIDE
Bunny Tails
As I’m planning my cool season garden, I’m going to grow triple the amount of Bunny Tails this year. This grass is the softest thing you’ve ever felt and the tails dry so beautifully.
Cultivate 25
I’ll be attending this big horticulture conference for the first time this year. SO EXCITED. If anyone else is going, let’s link up!
Three Ways to Design An English Country Garden via House & Garden
Hügelkultur
A great method for anyone trying to fill new garden beds. Saves you so much money on soil and creates a great environment for your future plants. I did this recently with a bed of mine that had tree roots. I took out all the soil, laid down a pond liner, and hügelkultur-ed my way to a new bed.
10 Essential Drought Tolerant Plants via Bloom
Thanks to Kristen for sending me this site.
I have gotten a handful of emails from people who missed the signup for my Group Growing Sessions and want to know when the next one will be. In Charleston, I’ll be hosting my next one in late summer / early Fall. Virtually, will be late Fall.
In the meantime, you can always book a private session or gather a group for your own group session. You just need a minimum of three people! I offer them virtually and in-person. Reach out to hello@baskergardens.com to learn more.
Learning to Grow Cut Flowers
Workplace Well-Being Sessions
Through Horticultural Therapy, we’ll create a program to help with: anxiety + stress reduction, team building, sense of ownership, increased focus, calming and / or creative breaks, and increased engagement.

What people are saying…
“I've been garden-curious for years but really didn't know where to start or what I could even grow with the small space I have outside my rented apartment.
Within one conversation, Jessica got me so excited about the possibilities, and now I can't wait to get my hands in the soil every day!”
